Cambodia Braces for Mixed Weather Conditions Due to Typhoons and Monsoon Influences

PHNOM PENH, July 23, 2024 — The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology has announced that Cambodia will experience varied weather patterns from July 23 to 25, 2024, influenced by the ongoing activities of Typhoons Prapiroon and Gaemi in the South China Sea and their effects on the Andaman Sea, central, and eastern Gulf of Thailand.
According to the Ministry, the fourth typhoon of the season alongside another storm is stirring the weather systems, impacting the southwest monsoon and subsequently affecting weather conditions across the Kingdom of Cambodia and the central Mekong basin. This meteorological activity is expected to bring rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds to different parts of the country.
Forecast data indicates that 25% of Cambodia’s lowland areas are likely to experience these conditions, while 40% of upland regions and 15% of coastal areas will also be affected.
During this period, temperatures are expected to vary slightly across different regions. Both lowland and upland areas will see minimum temperatures of 23°C and maximum temperatures reaching up to 31°C. Coastal regions will experience slightly cooler conditions with maximum temperatures anticipated to be around 30°C.
The ministry also noted that the average sea level along the coast is projected to range from 1.50 meters to a maximum of 2.50 meters during this time.
Residents and visitors in Cambodia are advised to stay informed about the weather conditions and take necessary precautions during this period of heightened meteorological activity.
